A free learning initiative of Palmyra Academic Press

Every course is a door.

Choose a door and step straight into a clear path of study: an ordered plan, open books and references, selected lectures and organised notes. Everything is open from the first moment, and you learn at your own pace. Free, Arabic first, for everyone who knocks, wherever they are.

Our message

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said:

«بَلِّغُوا عَنِّي وَلَوْ آيَةً»

“Convey from me, even if it is a single verse.”

Sahih al-Bukhari, 3461, narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr

This is Door’s message: knowledge should reach everyone who seeks it, even a little at a time, and it should be passed on faithfully.

The first doors

We are preparing them carefully. No door opens until its plan and materials are complete and its sources have been checked.

How does a door work?

Every door is a complete course on one subject, even without a teacher: we gather the best open resources and arrange them into a clear plan.

  1. Choose your door

Each door has one subject, a clear level and an estimated length.

  2. Step straight in

An ordered plan tells you what to read, what to watch and what to practise. Every material is open from day one, with no waiting.

  3. Learn from trusted sources

Openly licensed books and references, lectures selected from YouTube and elsewhere, and notes we write for you.

  4. Pass it on, even one verse

Summarise what you learned, teach it to someone else, or suggest a new door.

Kinds of doors

  • Curated door

A plan and materials we gather and organise for you, even without a teacher.

  • Mentored door Coming soon

A course given by an author or mentor, with their own lectures and materials, who follows the learners.

  • Palmyra doors

Research, writing, peer-review and publishing skills, from the experience of Palmyra Academic Press.

Principles

  • Free and open

Learning on Door is free, with no adverts and no tracking.

  • Arabic first

Arabic first and English too, for learners in Syria and everywhere else.

  • Light on slow internet

Small pages, text before video, and materials you can download.

  • Faithful to sources

We name the source of every item, link lectures to where they were published, and host a book only if it is openly licensed or its author has given permission.
